IBA Cup

4-in-a-row for Belmont?

Belmont A reached the final of the IBA Cup for the 4th year in succession after a tense semi-final at Ulster Transport versus Whitehead.

The NIBA side went into this game undefeated throughout the season having won all of their 12 league games and won the NIBA Cup. Belmont were going into this fixture having won 25 IBA Cup matches in a row(must be a record!!).

The game was tight throughout although Whitehead had the early advantage. After 5 ends they were ahead on 3 of the 4 rinks, but that advantage was tempered by Robin Horner's four of John Boyd, Morrow Horner and Robin Ferguson. They lead 3 time and current IBA singles champion Martin McHugh 12-0. This was a lead they were to maintain throughout the game to keep Belmont in with a shout of reaching the final and the eventually finished 24-13.

Tony Budde's men were struggling at 8-1 down at 5 ends but throught the game the slowly pegged Stephen Moran's rink back and a count of 5 on the 17th end put their noses in front. They finished 23-17 in front and the turnaround contributed as much to the victory as any of the other performances.

On rink 2 Chris Mulholland's men had a tough day against James Caldwell. Through some very good bowling and some fortune for the Whitehead men, the Belmont four struggled to keep pace with their opposition. However, despite being 23-9 down, Chris & co. pulled the deficit back to just 9 shots at 15-24.

Roy Battersby's game was too & fro affair against Barry Browne. At 5 ends the score was 6-1 to Whitehead. Then 8 shots for Belmont over the next 5 ends put their noses in front. Whitehead then replied with 9 of their own to lead 15-9 at 15 ends. Roy then won the last 6 ends 8-6 to close the gap to 21-17.

The game was very worthy of the final but it is Belmont who progress whee they meet fellow PGL side Ballymena for the 3rd all PGL final in a row. Bangor were the last side from outside of the PGL to make the final in 2003.

According to Bow Wow's 106 & Park interview, he and Ciara are history and I think <a href=http://world66.com/member/whoisciaradating>who is ciara dating</a> that she may have been the one to end things because he seemed a little bitter about it. I don't know who she is dating now. That photo of her on Nelly's bedside on that Over and Over Again video did cause me to think of the possibility of a relationship between Nelly & Ciara but it was after that that she went public with her relationship with Bow Wow. Yesterday on 106 & Park, Lil Fizz (formerly of B2K) hinted that he would be interested in dating Ciara. Rocsi was sure to call him out on that. Ciara is probably weighing her options and playing it cool right now. She may not be dating anyone.
