Once again only one of the four team won this Saturday, this weekend it was the turn of the Belmont B team. They picked up a valuable 6 pts at home to Willowfield. Jim Carroll's four were the only rink to lose when for the second game in a row they gave their opponent an 8-0 headstart. However, the fought hard to eventually finish just 2 behind at 17-19. Ernie Budde had a second successive comfortable victory and George Neill had the biggest up winning 28-13.
Chris Eadie skipping in place of Bobby Heaney had an exciting game in his debut at skip. His game was nip and tuck the whole way through and with game poised at 18-18, Eadie went to the mat with 4 against him, but he gloriously drove the jack into the ditch with his first bowl and lay right beside it. After the game he said that he normally leads on the A team that way, so the shot was not a problem. Click here for a full scoredcard
The Belmont A team were looking to capitalise on the 6pts from last week's game against Larne on their away trip to Willowfield. However, they found the green to be heavy and quite tricky and at the end of it all on came away with two points. Roy Battersby's rink got off to a flying start with a 6 on the first end and despite being pegged back at 7 ends, went on to get another 6 later on in the game to win by 10 shots. Chris Mulholland had a tough game against Brian Matchett, but won 8 of the last 10 ends to win 18-13. Robin Horner's rink were unlucky to lose by a single shot against Jim Frazer. The Belmont rink were 9 shots up at one stage and lying 7 when a couple of 'positive' shots from Frazer brought some fortuotous results. Over on the end rink, Tony Budde's four were unable to handle the green as well as some very good play from Jeff McMullan's Willowfield rink. The Willowfield men dominated from start to finish and eventually finshed up 28-6. Click here for a full scorecard.
Belmont Park A were hoping to improve on their 1.5pts from the week before however the returned for Old Bleach with no points.
Dessie McCullough got off to a great start against Michael Nutt and was leading 12-5 at the halfway stage, however the Old Bleach rink replied with 18 unanswered shots which included a 5 and a 7 and that was enough for them to pull through 24-18. Brian Higgins' rink struggled against Neil Booth in a low scoring encounter which had fourteen 1's. Unfortunately for Brian and his men most of them were for Booth. This one finished 9-22. Tom Matthews' rink never ecovered from a poor start when they were 18-6 down at halfway stage. They eventually finished 13-28. Ken Croy was unlucky not to get at least half a point out of his game with Sammy Hall. Hall led 16-4 at 13 ends, but Croy won 6 of the last 8 to pull the result back to 17-18. John McIlwaine lost a close game with PGL President Tom McIlvenna. Unfortunately for the home side the other two rinks were beaten handsomely. The 'Park B will find it tough to improve on this next week at Ulster Transport. Click here for a full scorecard.
